Denise Phillips, MSW, ACSW, LMSW, CAAC, NCGC-II, BACC
Psychotherapist and Substance Abuse Professional
Psychotherapist Denise Phillips, MSW, ACSW, LMSW, CAAC, NCGC-II, BACC has been in practice since 1985. She has worked extensively in the treatment of substance abuse and mental health. She has provided individual, group, marital and family therapy in the private and public sectors. Denise Phillips received her Masters Degree in Social work from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker and Certified Advanced Addictions Counselor in the State of Michigan. Ms Phillips belongs to the Academy of Certified Social Workers. Ms. Phillips is also a Substance Abuse Professional and meets the United States Department of Transportation requirements to evaluate and make recommendations for employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol regulation. Ms. Phillips also works as an Employee Assistance Program Representative for Health Management Systems of America. Ms. Phillips is skilled in diagnosing and treating a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, chemical dependency, and pathological gambling.
Ms. Phillips specializes in the treatment of compulsive gambling and is one of Michigan’s first Nationally Certified Gambling Counselors. Ms. Phillips is a clinical consultant approved by the National Gambling Counselors Certification Board. She has conducted training programs and workshops locally and statewide for treatment professionals, employee assistance programs, financial planners, and court officials interested in assessing and treating problem gambling.
Ms. Phillips has been involved in statewide and national efforts to increase public awareness of problem gambling. She has spoken to patients and staff members of hospitals and treatment centers, college and university students, community groups, religious organizations, and public officials. She has been featured on the television program “Prescription Health”. Ms. Phillips has been a guest several times on the radio talk show “The Truth About Gambling”. She has been featured in newspaper and magazine articles locally and nationally including Essence Magazine, The Michigan Chronicle, The Grosse Pointe News, The Detroit News, and Detroit Free Press.
Ms. Phillips belongs to the National Association of Social Workers. Ms. Phillips is a board member of the Michigan Association on Problem Gambling and serves as an affliate alternate representive to the National Council on Problem Gambling. Ms. Phillips is also a member of the National Council on Problem Gambling. Denise Phillips is recognized as one of Michigan’s leading professionals in the treatment of problem gambling.
